Look to the northeastern horizon around sunset on January 25th to catch the first glimpse of the initial full moon of the year. Folklore leads us to believe that the full moon of January was named for the howling of wolves caused by their hunger in the winter months. However, we now know they call from their forests and fields for a myriad of reasons, such as social interactions and territorial displays, as well as hunting.
